Global I.E.'s goal is to help different cultures to understand each other's uniqueness while learning to peacefully co-exist and appreciate differing values.
North Africa
This list is of past, current and contemplated projects in some of the countries. We have affiliate offices or have projects in the following North African countries:
Mali
Global I.E. raised $8,000 to furnish the first ever new school built by World Vision, in the remote village of Birga Fulbe. We have been asked to consider another school for the same Fulane tribe, in Ngaina, down the Niger river from Timbuktu. We are also providing school supplies.
Mauritania
Global I.E. has provided two English teachers to the U. of Nouakchott, the only university in the country. We also have opened an office/English Club adjacent to the campus. Our Global Education Mauritania staff also operate the Language Lab and have reorganized and moved the entire library. We have provided back packs and school supplies to 500 poor children, and removed drifting sand from playground and school yard of one elementary school.
Morocco
Global Education Morocco (GEM) has helped teach English at the Moroccan Aviation Academy, to future pilots, air traffic controllers and security personnel for Morocco and other African countries. When the Semester at Sea ship visits Casablanca, GEM hosts the international students by arranging visits to Moroccan homes, to orphanages, to various cultural spots. The largest project is a k-12 trilingual international school in Casablanca for over 600 students, including some Moroccan students who receive tuition grants. The first phase of a new campus has been completed, with a project budget of over $8,000,000.
GEM was also instrumental in organizing the Moroccan Internet Society to bring the internet to Morocco and to its universities.
Tunisia
Global I.E. has added staff in Tunis and has already completed the first free medical clinic ever known south of Tunis. Food has been distributed to families in suburban Tunis. Many children cannot go to school because there are no school buses. We are providing bus passes as well as school books and supplies to children.
Algeria
Global I.E. has provided assistance and documentation to allow staff from France to enter the country to assess educational projects. Most of the activity has been providing visiting Americans to university campuses for English Clubs.
Egypt
Most of your past activity was assistance in Cairo, to poor Sudanese students, refugees from that civil war. No current ongoing activity.
