Criteria for Project Assistance or Endorsement
- The project's essential purpose shall be educational and shall always be consistent with Global IE's Purpose Statement.
- The project shall be cross-cultural and may include the study of a language different from the primary language of the country in which the project is located. It shall involve instructors whose primary language is other than that of the country in which the project is located. Teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) shall be a major activity.
- The project provides for cross-cultural exchange of ideas between citizens of the United States and those of another country or countries.
- The project may provide for some humanitarian purpose to be accomplished incidental to the project's educational purpose. The project may include the basic care of orphans and other underprivileged children, in order to develop healthy bodies and minds. Aid could also take the form of medical assistance including the rehabilitation of medical facilities, particularly in more rural areas.
- For those unable to make full payment while attending schools, the project may include grants, partially forgiven tuition or reduced expenses.
- The project may include a study of different religions or different cultural values or customs.
- The project may involve instruction or training for those who plan to study in another country.
- The project may involve the development or distribution of written educational materials, including computer and music materials. It may involve instruction in the creative arts, including music, dance, or sports.
- The project may be a joint venture with another organization whose purpose statement is compatible with Global IE's Purpose Statement.
- The project may be of a short-term nature (e.g., a seminar), or of a long-term nature (e.g., a school or orphanage), or may involve a creative use of education over time (e.g., an intern project).
Purpose Statement
Global Involvement through Education (Global IE) is a small non-profit organization, formed for the purpose of promoting international cross-cultural learning opportunities. It accomplishes this by assisting and facilitating various educational projects and programs throughout the world.
Global IE's goal is to help different cultures to understand each other's uniqueness while learning to peacefully co-exist and appreciate differing values. Global IE, through educational and humanitarian activities, aspires to encourage in all people the qualities of servant leadership, honesty, fairness, courage, unselfishness, charity to others, love of family and faith. We believe better education will instill hope for a better future, leading to better lives for all people.
